Educational leadership is a tough job. Don't do it alone. Explore the site to find real-world pointers on navigating educational leadership.
the power of a teacherA few years ago, I was presenting at a conference with a team from my school district. While waiting to set up for the presentation, I recognized someone from my past who had an enormous effect on my life. I was standing within feet of the one college professor who took the time to know, nurture, and love me as a young college student. Dr. Laurie Fluker was my hero at Texas State University (the former Southwest Texas State University).
All That I AmEDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIPThe adventure of starting this blog is leading me to many “aha” moments about myself as a person and as a professional. When I decided to jump into the world of blogging, I started strong. Within a few days, I had created the site, submitted a DBA for my new “company”, created an email address, and Twitter account.
The Twitter account didn’t quickly take off, so I thought about deleting the company Twitter account and instead sending tweets from my “personal” Twitter account. I had mixed emotions about this. My personal Twitter account has several inspirational and religious tweets, for I am a Christian. My personal Twitter account is full of pictures of my son in his quest to become a college athlete, for I am his unofficial agent. My personal Twitter account has an occasional family picture, for I am a wife and a mother. My personal Twitter account has some educational things on it, for I am an educator. My thought was that people wouldn’t want to see all of my personal posts, but then I quickly realized that my personal Twitter page represents who I am. I am a Christian. I am a wife. I am a mother. I am an educator. And all that I am, I believe, makes me a great educator. I came to the realization that who I am helps me be a compassionate and understanding educator. I still haven’t decided whether I’m going to delete the company Twitter page, but I do know that I can’t departmentalize my lives. I am all that I am. |
